Experience the sunset and the planets from the summit of Gaustatoppen

Join astronomer Vegard Lundby Rekaa for a very special evening at the summit of Gaustatoppen.

This evening the Gaustabanen funicular will stay open late, giving you the opportunity to travel up to 1,883 meters above sea level and experience one of Norway’s most spectacular views just as the sun sets.

From the summit the landscape opens in every direction, and on clear days you can see vast parts of Southern Norway. As the sun sinks behind the mountains the sky fills with warm colors and long shadows stretching across peaks and plateaus, a moment that feels magical every time.

For those arriving before sunset there will also be a rare opportunity to observe the Sun up close. An astronomer will be present with a solar telescope, allowing you to safely study the surface of our star. Here you can discover dramatic details such as solar flares and glowing structures in the Sun’s atmosphere, phenomena normally hidden from the naked eye.

As darkness falls we turn our attention to the evening sky. Two bright planets will be visible, and through a telescope you can experience them in a completely new way as small worlds far out in the solar system.

This is an evening where nature, breathtaking views and the universe meet. Bring warm clothes, a camera and your curiosity and join us at the summit for an unforgettable experience between mountains and stars.
