The Viking Challenge is a unique backhill race finishing at Gaustatoppen. The race combines magnificent nature experiences and counter-hill race together in a new and exciting format, and is often referred to as the most beautiful and fun counter-hill race in Norway.
You can choose from different distances to suit your ambition, form and experience. Viking Challenge challenges everything from families and exercisers to the fittest. Two different distances, both finishing at the top.
Long trail:
The most experienced athletes may choose the toughest trail, 1500 altitude meters distributed over 11 kilometers, and has a group start from Rjukan Stadium. From there it carries steeply up to Selstali into the beautiful Gausdalen valley, before the last steep 700 altitude meters towards the top. A challenge for the most experinced athletes.
Short Trail:
Exercise enthusiasts and families can indulge to an alternative. About 800 altitude meter spread over 4 kilometers starting at Svineroi. This route is slightly shorter than the regular "tourist route", but in return has a slightly steeper and more even climb.
